PancakeSwap aims to boost liquidity provider rewards by increasing swap fee shares to 88% while significantly reducing CAKE emissions.

PancakeSwap Proposes Major Fee Restructure and CAKE Emission Reduction

PancakeSwap is looking to enhance the rewards for its liquidity providers (LPs) on its new pools by allocating a more substantial portion of trading fees in a recent proposal dubbed “The Flip.” This plan, detailed on October 14 by the team known as The Kitchen, would allow LPs in version 3 and Infinity pools to retain 88% of the swap fees generated across 11 supported chains, including BNB Chain, Ethereum, Base, and Solana. Currently, LPs manage to keep only about 66% to 68% of the swap fees, with the remaining revenue directed to the PancakeSwap Treasury.

Significant Reduction in CAKE Minting

The proposal includes a dramatic cut in daily CAKE emissions, reducing them from 22,500 to 7,000, which the team claims represents a significant reduction of approximately 69%. This translates to about 15,500 fewer CAKE tokens minted each day, totaling roughly 5.7 million annually. The remaining daily CAKE issuance will support a new ecosystem pool known as the Pantry, aimed at funding marketing efforts, partnerships, and seeding liquidity in new pools. This strategic redirection of tokens raises questions about sustainability, especially for a platform that hinges on user engagement.

The team emphasized that growth should stem from user activity rather than merely inflating the CAKE supply. They assert that liquidity providers on version 3 and Infinity pools could collectively earn around $62 million more in fees based on projected trading volumes for 2025 under this new fee structure. Traders will experience no changes in fee structure, while v2 pools will continue to direct 23% of their swap fees to CAKE burn events. This discrepancy leads to speculation: will trading volume compensate for reduced token emissions?

For existing Infinity pools, where LP fees had been locked during the pool's creation, a reduced protocol fee would result in an overall decrease in total fees. For instance, a 1% fee might now drop to around 0.76%. This detail matters as it implies lower costs for traders but also hints at reduced revenue for PancakeSwap’s Treasury, pushing the question of whether liquidity supply will enough to sustain trader interest.

The proposal notes that the v2 pools help maintain CAKE’s net deflationary status, having achieved an average weekly net supply decline of roughly 190,000 CAKE over the last ten weeks. The team is hopeful that this trend aligns with a target 20% supply reduction by 2030, a goal set in Tokenomics 3.0, which was approved in April 2025. This ambitious milestone comes after an already substantial 11.5% reduction since the implementation. But is this optimism grounded in reality? Or merely wishful thinking?

Community Response

Initial reactions to the proposal have been mixed, revealing a divided community landscape. Many users are expressing anxiety over the predicted diminishing burn rates. Some commenters pointed out that both version 3 and Infinity pools would halt CAKE burns entirely. This concern was echoed by a user named Juapia, who questioned, “Why don’t you state this clearly?” It’s a valid point: transparency matters in community engagements, particularly when big changes are at stake. The suggestion that part of the 12% allocation could be redirected to support burning initiatives also underscores an ongoing tension—how do you balance liquidity incentives with deflationary pressures?

Other users voiced their disapproval, with a long-time CAKE holder bluntly stating their fundamental disagreement with the proposed changes. As of October 15, CAKE traded at $2.20, marking a decline of approximately 6.8% within a mere 24-hour window, according to data from CoinGecko. These metrics provide quantitative proof that market sentiment is palpable right now—move in one direction, and the market seems to react swiftly.

In an earlier vote in December 2023, PancakeSwap's community decided to reduce CAKE’s maximum supply from 750 million to 450 million, followed by another vote that approved a further reduction to 400 million in January 2026. This kind of decision affects not just the current supply but the very fabric of token economics that holds the PancakeSwap ecosystem together. Community engagement is crucial here, and as members voice their opinions, it becomes clear they’re not just passive witnesses to this proposed overhaul.

If the proposal is approved, planned implementation will begin in November and conclude by January 2027. As for voting procedures, the proposal has not yet faced a Snapshot vote. The team seems keen on gathering community feedback before officially advancing it, which implies that they’re attempting to stay in touch with the community pulse—a necessary step in this climate of skepticism and scrutiny.

Implications and Future Outlook

What's at stake here? If you're working in this space, you know that the balance between fiat-like utility and asset inflation can make or break a platform's credibility. The decision to enhance LP rewards while cutting token emissions could either signal a tactical shift towards attracting more significant trading volumes or create an ecosystem that risks losing liquidity in the long run. Community sentiments reveal skepticism that the plan is not fully embraced, but there’s potential for adaptation—should the PancakeSwap team correctly interpret and act on this feedback.

Traditionally, high emissions lead to lower token value, and cutting CAKE production while increasing LP rewards represents a bold gamble. Nonetheless, will traders feel incentivized enough to stick around? The coming months could yield valuable insights into the effectiveness of these changes and whether user engagement can rise to meet the new expectations. If the changes ultimately attract liquidity while maintaining a stable CAKE supply, PancakeSwap could find itself solidifying its position in a fiercely competitive market. Watch closely; the reactions and data from the upcoming months will sculpt the narrative.
