In the evolving world of cryptocurrencies, privacy concerns loom large. Users often find themselves realizing that their wallet activities are entirely visible, leading to potential vulnerabilities such as frontrunning by MEV bots and pattern exploitation by bad actors. To address this gap, Zerion has partnered with Zama Protocol to introduce a novel approach to confidentiality.

Introducing Confidential Tokens in Zerion

Zerion Wallet now includes support for confidential tokens and positions, a significant leap in safeguarding user interests. Through Zama functionality, users can now have encrypted balances displayed in their portfolios. This means while your address and transactional activities remain public, the amounts associated with confidential tokens are protected.

Upon connecting a wallet, users will have the option to decrypt their confidential balances, allowing them exclusive access to the encrypted amounts. However, these decrypted values remain concealed from others unless users choose to unshield them. Noteworthy is an upcoming feature that will enable native shielding and unshielding right within the Zerion platform.

The Mechanics of Zama's Confidential Balances

Zama implements fully homomorphic encryption (FHE), a groundbreaking method that allows operations on encrypted data without exposing the underlying information. In this setup, the confidential token balances exist as handles leading to encrypted values. While external observers can see a handle and its associated transaction, they cannot discern the actual amounts involved.

Authorization of Balance Access

When users opt to reveal an amount via the web app, they will authorize the action with a signed, time-sensitive permit. This mechanism ensures that the decryption process maintains user control, without introducing new custody complexities. Throughout this process, users retain complete management of their wallets, linked to existing keys and without the need for bridge technologies or separate privacy chains, as all operational activities reside on the Ethereum mainnet.

Why Zerion Selected Zama Protocol

Zama's approach stands out because it functions as a confidentiality layer atop existing blockchain infrastructures, rather than establishing a new layer of its own. This is beneficial, allowing confidential assets to be utilized alongside traditional DeFi offerings.

Zama's confidential vaults, including integrations with platforms like the Steakhouse USDC MetaMorpho vault on Morpho, maintain compatibility for both public and confidential depositors. This structure distinguishes Zama from a traditional mixer as it does not pool funds in a way that obfuscates their origins. Instead, the ownership remains auditable, while the discrete amounts stay encrypted.

By adhering to a published token standard—ERC-7984—Zama enables Zerion to build on firm ground, relying on verifiable on-chain contracts rather than unique APIs. The expertise behind Zama is noteworthy; with roots in advanced cryptographic research and significant funding, the team possesses an impressive track record.

With no compromise on security, Zama also implements a key management network involving multiple independent operators, ensuring no single entity can access decrypted balance information. Major players including Ledger and Etherscan participate in this ecosystem, further solidifying trust in the protocol.

Looking Ahead

Future plans for Zerion include expanding support for confidential assets and introducing additional features as Zama's asset registry grows. The primary objective is clear: to integrate confidential balances as essential components of on-chain portfolios, enabling users to manage assets privately while participating fully in DeFi ecosystems.

Personalize Your Viewing Experience

To view your Zama confidential positions, simply update your Zerion iOS app to the latest version or connect your wallet to the Zerion web portal. Confidential balances will display exclusively for your access. For a more in-depth understanding, check out the Zama Protocol documentation.
